What is Lifestyle Photography?

I say I’m a “LIFESTYLE” photographer and people ask me what is that? It took me a minute to gather my thoughts before I could respond. So I did what most people do, I goggled it! Funny, because I thought I knew what it meant, but when I read some of the websites on this style of photography, I realized I’ve been a lifestyle photographer all my life.

Lifestyle photography is about telling a story through the lens. It's about the legacy that is left behind because of it.

Some examples of lifestyle photography can be seen at this site . This is for a newborn lifestyle photographer here in San Antonio, Tx.

Lifestyle photography is a kind of photography that mainly aims to capture portraits of people in everyday situations, real-life events or milestones in an artistic manner.

The primary goal is to tell stories about people's lives or to inspire people in different times.

A lifestyle photographer is not only a portrait or people photographer who loves and enjoys photography as art in everyday life.

The lifestyle photographer is talented in other disciplines of photography such as landscape, street photography, fashion, and even weddings. You kind of need to be in order to be able to get the shot in any environment.

When shooting a family lifestyle portrait, the goal is to make the image look as spontaneous as possible.  Don’t get me wrong, lifestyle photography is "posed", but it’s done in a way that the photographer gives some direction and then documents the natural responses after.

Overall, the goal of photography is to always put the subject in the best light so a little direction toward the best possible light is always a good thing.

One of my favorite and fairly recent family lifestyle portraits was shot at the beach. This was so much fun, but also extremely challenging. The light was crazy beautiful but it was very early. We were at North Padre Island in Corpus Christi.

The kids weren’t as fuzzy as I thought they’d be and that was a good thing.  We waited for just the right color of light and we played while we waited. The images came out great! Go to the opening image for this blog and in my Gallery under Lifestyle beach images for more.
